To improve safety and provide consistency across the roading network in Banks Peninsula, the CCC is proposing speed limit changes on a number of roads, including many in the greater Diamond Harbour area and those connecting to Christchurch.
For further information or to give feedback to the proposals (may be submitted up to November 6) go here:

Essentially, I feel the proposed speed limit changes are sensible and not before time. Thanks Richard for initiating the Association’s likely comments. I agree with your suggested changes. I hope our committee and members can see the sense in your comments.
I do, however feel there are some critical locations in the Harbour are that need highlighting when considering special case locations where potential road hazards exist. These are–
1. Teddington straight at the quarry. The bend in the road at the T intersection needs to have the macracarpa’s high pruned so as not to obscure vision on the bend and a 80 KPH curve sign erected.
2. Charteris Bay Yacht Club Corner: 50 MPH sign and 40 on Club days when the road above the club is full of parked cars, trailer and people.
3. On the Spot: 40 KPH. Get OTSpot to check hazards associated with their business, both now and the future, if and when the shopping center is built.
4. DHB School and Kids First. 40KPH zone on School Days. I know that, officially, this does not meet the current traffic volumes criteria under NZTA rules, but at present many cars fly through at 50kph + when children are present.
5. Triangle. Needs a 40 kph limit within 100 meters of all entrances/exit. It also needs to have the roses either removed or heavily pruned as they seriously obscure driver vision!I’m doing a S S Solve entry on this.
6. Entrance to Play Center an Bowls. Another 40 KPH limit would be sensible 100 meters either side of entrance.
7> General Road Quality. As there are so many areas where road quality is poor, with potholes, slumps, rough edges to seal, deep ditches and lack of footpaths. These sort of hazards need to be linked to the proposed speed limit changes so as to arrive at a holistic approach to improving road safety in our area.
Thank you
