Hi, Recently arrived from Scotland my brother and I started at Daimond Harbour School in April 1953. From my memory both teachers were horrible to us. Laughing at our accents and trying to get us to “talk properly!’ Luckily we moved on in 1956 and I enjoyed Lyttelton Main School. All the Male teachers had a sense of humour and made learning not only fun but interesting.
Hi Rosemary, I have children at the school currently and there is a celebration planned next year for the 75th anniversary. Maybe check out the school website directly for information.
My name is Rosemary Jean McLaughlin, nee Ashton, and I was a first day pupil when the school opened in February 1945. That means that next year will be the school’s 75th anniversary. Is there going to be any celebration of this milestone? I attended the 50th anniversary but I certainly won’t be around for the centennial! I would appreciate any information.
Hi Rosemary – yes we are having a celebration during Labour Weekend – you can read more about it and register at: http://www.dhs75.com
Hi Rosemary, interesting to read you were a first day pupil at DH School in 1945. I also attended the old school but a little later beginning in 1951. I have lots of memories from the school. Also went to the last school Anniversary…that was so much fun catching up with everyone. stayed at Godley House with my 3 sisters.
