Historical Association

March 9, 2021 @ 7:30 pm

Next meeting Tuesday March 9 in the Green Room at 7.30 pm. We are fortunate to have Hamish Rennie, Associate Professor (Planning and Environmental Management) at Lincoln University, who is also a Trustee of the Waihora Ellesmere Trust speak about the changes in the history of one of the most fascinating of all local areas.

Hamish’s topic is Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere – Reliving the past in the present for the future. Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere, perhaps one of the most misunderstood and significant characters in New Zealand, developed contrasting relationships with Tangata Whenua and Europeans. In this talk, Hamish will discuss significant changes in the Lake and the way it has been perceived over time and how the consequences of those historical relationships weigh on the present and future of the Lake and its people. All welcome. $3 koha non members. Contact Philippa 027 224 2421 or 329 4677.
