Pickball

October 10 @ 3:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. It was invented in the 1960’s in the State of Washington in the United States. Recently, play has been exploding in New Zealand.

The Charteris Bay Tennis Club has purchased Pickleball equipment and has started play on one side of one of our tennis courts. Pickleball can be played indoors and outdoors. Several of the public recreational facilities in the city have been playing regularly.

The pickleball court is the size as a doubles badminton court (44 feet by 20 feet.) The net height is 34 inches in the center and 36 inches at the sides. The paddle or racquet is a solid, smooth surface paddle about twice the size of a ping pong paddle. The ball is a hollow, hard plastic, with holes in it, about the size of a cricket ball. This ball is called a wiffle ball and is similar to practice golf balls that look the same but of course are much smaller.

The pickleball court at the Charteris Bay Tennis Club will be open for play on Thursdays at 3pm to sunset and Saturdays at 9am to noon.

This is a fun game for all ages and all in our community are welcome to come and see how it is played and give it try, free of charge. Play at other times can also be arranged.

Call Tom Kuenning on 021 024 11788 if you have any questions or would like to try the game another time.
